چکیده

Aluminum (Al) has a significant toxic potential for humans. Although knowledge of Al toxicity has markedly improved in recent years, there is relatively little information regarding its embryotoxicity and teratogenic potential. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of short-term exposure of aluminum chloride (AlCl3) on the external abnormality of the fetuses of pregnant mice. Mature Naval medical research institute (NMRI) mice (24 to 33 g) were used in this study. Day 0 of gestation was defined as the day in which the vaginal plug was observed. Plug-positive mice were randomly divided in to six groups, each composed of 12 mice. To the first, second, and third groups, 150 mg/kg of AlCl3 was injected intraperitoneally on the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth days of gestation, respectively. Normal saline (0.3 mL) was injected in the mice in the control groups on the same days of gestation. Mice were killed on day 18 of gestation. Live fetuses were weighed and examined for external 02Karimpour-vol5no4 12/20/05 8:12 PM Page 575

Effects of Aluminum chloride (AlCl3) on spatial memory: association with oxidative stress

The effects of chronic AlCl3 exposure on spatial memory in rats remain controversial. Since some toxic metals such as aluminum when entered the body, can contribute to diseases such as Alzheimer, in this study the time course effect of the systematically administered AlCl3 on the spatial memory retention in the Morris Water Maze was investigated. Rats were treated with AlCl3 (1 gr/lit) for two,...

Grape seed extract alleviate reproductive toxicity caused by aluminium chloride in male rats

Natural dietary antioxidants are studied for their ability to protect cells from miscellaneous damage. Grape seed extract (Vitis vinifera L., Vitacease) is a potent antioxidant. The present study aimed to investigate the protective effect of grape seed extract (GSE) against the possible testicular dysfunction caused by aluminium chloride (AlCl3) in male rats. Twenty sexually mature male albino ...

Antioxidant and Ameliorative Effects of Zingiber officinale Against Aluminum Chloride Toxicity

The present study was performed to assess the antioxidant capacity of different doses of Zingiber officinale extract and its efficacy in alleviating the biochemical alterations induced by aluminum chloride in rabbits. Twenty-eight male rabbits were allocated into four groups (7 rabbits in each); Group I: served as normal control, Group II: treated with aluminum chloride (AlCl3) (150 mg/kg body ...

Effects of aluminum toxicity on maize (Zea mays L.) seedlings. Parviz Malekzadeh1*, Reza Sheikhakbari Mehr1 and Ali Asghar Hatamnia2

Aluminum toxicity is one of the most deleterious factors for plant growth in acidic soils because over 50% of the world’s potentially arable lands are acidic. In recent years, considerable research has been conducted to understand the mechanisms of Al toxicity and tolerance in plants. This paper reviews the effects of different concentration of Al on plant shoot, root physiological parameters s...

Human Sperm Quality and Metal Toxicants: Protective Effects of some Flavonoids on Male Reproductive Function

Objective Metals can cause male infertility through affection of spermatogenesis and sperm quality. Strong evidences confirm that male infertility in metal-exposed humans is mediated via various mechanisms such as production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Flavonoids have antioxidant and metal chelating properties which make them suitable candidates for neutralizing adverse effects of metals ...
